The event, organized by the DILOR family optics network, brought together more than 500 specialists from Orenburg, Moscow, Chelyabinsk and Novosibirsk. Among the participants are ophthalmologists and optometrists, as well as doctors of related fields: pediatricians, endocrinologists and neurologists.

Olga Khromushina, Chairman of the Committee of the Legislative Assembly of the Orenburg Region on Social Policy and Healthcare, Elena Lutsai, Vice-Rector for Scientific, Innovative and International Activities of the OrGMU, and Sergey Perepelkin, Rector for Continuing Medical Education and Regional Health Development of the OrGMU, addressed the audience with welcoming remarks. The conference was opened by Larisa Zueva, the founder of the network.

The conference program included five sections: adult ophthalmology and ophthalmic surgery, control of myopia in children, orthokeratology, vision of patients over 45 years of age as part of systemic health, as well as doctor-patient interaction.

The Adult Ophthalmology section was moderated by Alexander Aprelev, Head of the Ophthalmology Department at OrGMU. Presentations were made by specialists from the Orenburg Regional Clinical Hospital named after V. I. Voynov and the Orenburg Regional Children's Clinical Hospital. The focus turned to critically important topics: early diagnosis of age-related macular degeneration, retinal detachment, and eyeball injury. A detailed analysis of clinical cases and the exchange of practical experience allowed the participants to develop common approaches to the management of such patients.

Special attention was paid to the problem of progressive myopia in children and schoolchildren. Within the framework of the profile section, Associate Professor of the Department of Pediatric Diseases of OrGMU, Candidate of Medical Sciences Lyubov Gordienko presented a report on the relationship of myopia with the general state of health of a child. Her presentation emphasized the need for an interdisciplinary assessment of the condition of young patients and consideration of multiple risk factors. The participants of the section unanimously agreed that it is possible to preserve a child's eyesight only with the coordinated work of a doctor, family and school.
